KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS DONATION SUPPORTS FRIENDSHIP HOUSE
L to R are Knights Jim Fewell and Ray Kotek; Beth Mangold, Ed Whitney and Rudy D’Souza of Friendship House; and Knight Tom McNamara
A highly successful Tootsie Roll sale in late 2007 resulted in a generous donation of over $ 8,000 to Friendship House from the Starved Rock Council of the Knights of Columbus. The ongoing support from the Knights of Columbus has been tremendous.
This year’s donation was used toward the acquisition of a new truck for the Workshop program. Our new vehicle is a 20 foot box truck, and will be used to transport contract materials to and from local businesses and industry. On average, 3 to 4 trips are made daily to Ottawa area businesses as part of the Workshop program. (see related article on page 3)
The 2008 Chevrolet truck was delivered in January, and is a much needed replacement for a similar vehicle that was used by the program since 1999.
Over the years, donations from the Knights of Columbus have generously supported Ottawa Friendship House. Past donations were used to purchase such items as a dishwasher, snowplow, programming materials, as well as many other items needed by our program.
Additionally, one of the houses in our Residential program was paid for in full by Knights of Columbus donations. Today, House 2 is home to four adults with developmental disabilities.
Our new truck began service in January, and
averages 3 to 4 trips daily to area industries
and businesses.
