Art Show Held in August
With classical music in the background, and chocolate chip cookies at the refreshment table, the first Friendship House art show was in progress. Participants in this Summer’s art program celebrated the end of the classes by holding the event on August 25. In all, eleven people participated in the program and were able to display their best work. There were no prizes awarded, but all were presented with awards for participation by Ed Whitney, President of the Board of Directors. Categories included oil painting, photography, water colors, and pottery. The program was presented by Michelle McDonald, an intern from Millikin University in Decatur (see related article in the August Uphill Racer).
The event highlighted the talents of the students, whose interest and skills steadily progressed over the summer. All paintings were matted and framed, and were presented in a professional manner, highlighting the quality of the projects. A number of persons were in attendance, including staff, board members, family, and other interested people from the community. “It was challenging, but reallly a good experience because I enjoy art”, said Eric, a participant in the program.
